David Copperfield

It almost made me cry, but then I got a grip. That's really bad. It was at the sad part, for those of you who haven't gotten there. I wasn't just sad randomly. But I'm going to finish on Sunday!

And I got a really cool new bassoon piece for my MAYO audition. But there's way too much tenor clef.

Life Summary

It's been ages since I've posted! My life hasn't been terribly exciting recently. I'm on page 560/951 in David Copperfield. I'm on pace to finish next Sunday, before intensive band camp starts, so that's good. It's my birthday on Monday and it's the start of Marching Band! I'm such a band-o; this is seriously going to be my favorite birthday ever. *points at self* Nerd!

I already posted this in a comment on Hannah's LJ, but I'll share it here too. So I've finally had an HP dream; the first one I've ever had. I dreamed that I was Harry Potter, but no one believed me (I don't think Voldemort did, even, because I had dinner with him a few times). Then, at one of the dinners he wasn't at, I had to prove to Professor Burbage that I really was Harry Potter by carving the words "Potter is me" in a pancake. I couldn't say "Potter" out loud because then Voldemort would find me. (I know that part contradicts itself, but that's how it was in the dream.) I think there was also something in it about having to ride the subways in London (or maybe it was Manchester, I'm not sure, but it was definately in England) with my dad and the subway station was totally empty, which was wierd. But yeah. It was bizarre.

This was from one of those LJ administrator posts that most people get on their friends pages

They explain that they messed up some stuff and when they messed it up they were trying to get rid of these people. Are these quotes wierd?

"As most of you know, LJ has a zero tolerance policy toward content that supports child abuse, pedophilia, or sexual violence." "There were a number of profiles that expressed “interest” in activities that most of us would agree put children at risk, notably pedophilia and child rape." "Another issue we needed to deal with was journals that used a thin veneer of fictional or academic interest in events and storylines that include child rape, pedophilia, and similar themes in order to actually promote these activities."

I mean, good that they don't like that stuff, but it's wierd that they have to mod for this. And the way he words it is strange. And the fact that his name is Barak Berkowitz strikes me as funny. Cuz Berkowitz is really Jewish and Barak isn't. In fact, the only Barak I've ever heard of is Barak Obama.

Why can't we just get along?

Mr. Adams, why is your mission in life to thwart me? Are you really that compelled to contradict every thing I say? Am I that unworthy of your valuable time?

Mr. Adams: The US doesn't understand that they aren't going to be recieved by the countries they're "liberating" in the same way they were recieved in WWII in France when the French threw flowers at the soldiers.
Me: Well, many of the people in Afghanistan were pretty happy when we invaded. They didn't really like the Taliban.
Mr Adams: No. That's wrong. Maybe a few people thought it was good that we invaded, but, basically, that isn't what happened at all. That's wrong. They hated us from the beginning. You're wrong, Adam.

I don't hate you! Why do you have to be so mean to me? What's your problem? You aren't even right when you rip my head off! You just don't want anyone getting the idea that maybe the information you're giving us isn't always right.

And what's with, "The government thinks that all teachers do is expound their political views on the students"? That sure isn't what you're doing when you attack the Republicans during discussions.

1. Go to IMDB.com and look up 10 of your favorite movies.
2. Post some official IMDB "Plot Keywords" for each.
3.
...but it means that I get to be on varsity, which is awesome. I'm doing scrambler and robot. I was on Circuit Lab for a few hours and then they took me off of it, which is just as well. It would be awesome if we medaled in scrambler at nationals.

And I'm totally sick of passover. All I could eat at sarah's party was grapes.
Bassoon

I'm getting the other, cooler bassoon tomorrow. At my lesson today, Catherine called Kate and Kate gave us the locker number and combination, so I'm going to get in and take it and replace it with my loser bassoon. W00t.

So I finally found out why my part in the Schumann is labeled "Fagotto 2." Because the German version of the Bassoon (which most people play) is called the Fagott (I'm not sure I spelled that right, but it's pronounced Fah-Goht, short a (like aaah, I'm being chased by a velociraptor), long o (like oh no)). And that prononciation key was longer than it needed to be. The french version, the basson (bass-ohn) is not commonly played and does better with the higher register.

In other news, I got into an argument with Emily Morrow today at lunch about whether Banana Nut or Apple Cinnamon muffins are better. Clearly, it's Apple Cinnamon.

I guess I'll leave a short summary of my recent life

I got a lot done at SO today. I fixed all of the things that weren't working on the varsity scrambler car (and there were a lot of them) and I made sure the brake spool works (but we need bigger pieces of cardboard) and then I figured out how many turns it needs to be pre-wound to get it to go 12 meters, 11 meters, and 10 meters. I was productive.

Scrambler the Movie was uber-entertaining.

Bassoon is cool-tastic. I have my MAYO audition tomorrow and I'm nervous but I think it'll be okay cuz I'm playing easy pieces. I wish I was doing bassoon for solo and ensemble.

We were watching a movie in Social Studies on Thursday and I thought that the movie said that the life expectancy in ancient Greece was under 15, but they really said under 50.

I watched The Golden Age of Ballooning on WTIU. It wasn't as funny as I'd hoped. I need to see more Monty Python so I start understanding it more.

Well, it's 2007. How wierd. This better be a better year than 2006. Even though I had fun in 2006, a few things about it made it overwhelmingly bad. Don't feel like going into detail.

Well, I guess I've got to play Autum's silly game

It's just too inviting.

Step 1: Open up whatever MP3 program you use and add every song in your collection.
Step 2: Put it on random.
Step 3: Post the first line from the first 15 songs that play, no matter how embarassing the song.
Step 4: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 5: Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 6: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING

1. Gonna get back to basics, guess I'll start it up again...
2. Before this dance is through, I think I'll love you too...
3. Oh, maybe I think, maybe I don't, maybe I will, maybe I won't...
4. Well, how come you say you will when you won't...
<strike>5. Help, I need somebody...</strike>
<strike>6. Sexy Sadie, what have you done...
</strike>7. Step out the front door like a ghost into the fog...
8. Where is the moment when needed the most...
<strike>9. It's getting better all the time...</strike>
10. Hear the sound of falling rain...
11. It was twenty years ago today...
<strike>12. I told you 'bout strawberry fields
</strike>13. I want to tell you, my head is filled with things to say...
<strike>14. We were talking about the space within us all
15. She's into superstitions...</strike>

Most of those are far to easy to be allowed, but 1, 3, 7, and 14 should be hard enough.

I love how you tell me things, Mrs. Stockhouse

So I just read Perry's post about how she's getting moved to Wind Ensemble next semester. That means Mrs. Stockhouse must want me to play bassoon next semester, but I'm definately not going to be ready to play Wind Ensemble-level music in January. Or I'm going to have to practice for hours a day over winter break, which I just might to. Bassoon is really cool, so I'm not angry, I just would have liked to know that that was her plan.

In other news, Hannah, Jessie, Maya, Katherine, and I went to Tri-North to help the SO team this afternoon. It was superlatively mediocre. I guess it was interesting to meet the new SO team and I think we were helpful, but something about the whole thing seems rather unorganized. I suppose it's not my problem anymore.

I think I'm going to go to bed before 10:00 tonight. If I was employing the personal fable that we learned about in Social Studies, I would determine that "no one has ever been this tired." But that would be a lie. And I'm not that stupid.

We tied for fifth at state! And we won the coin toss, so we got the slightly larger trophy! Best finish in the history of the school! Heck yes!

Ugh...

Is it possible to be both ecstatic and crushed at the same time? Cuz that's where I am right now...ecstatic about state, crushed about a certain person...But anyway, I just found out that a certain person, who will remain nameless for anyone who doesn't know about this certain person, can't date until after high school! I've heard of overprotective, but come on. That's ridiculous. I've never heard of a parent who would actively attempt to prevent their kid from going to prom. Crazy. I can just hope zuzanna and her mom are wrong about this. But there's only so much hoping someone can do. I should take a page out of Autum's book and become a couple-hater.
